Eighth-grader Gracie Bucher had her heart set on qualifying for Minnesota's state cross country meet at sectionals last month. Despite her determination, it didn't look like she was going to make it to the finish line.
"...Bucher felt herself struggling to keep pace," explained ESPN. "Her legs and chest felt heavy. She continued to run, but as she approached the finish line, she collapsed. She tried to get up, but fell again. Her mom watched from the sideline in complete agony, but was told she wasn't allowed to assist her."
Liana Blomgren, a runner from another school, didn't let the threat of disqualification stop her from helping Bucher finish the race. After helping her up, Blomgren held onto Bucher as they ran to the finish line.
